The Docklands Seniors Forum


The Docklands Seniors Forum was set up with the  aim to make decisions that benefit the entire Docklands Seniors Community. The Forum is made up of 29 members who are committed on an ongoing basis to maintaining a strong strategic partnership with the Docklands Development Authority, partnering in promoting the objectives of an ‘Age Friendly' Social Regeneration of the area. The Forum members have been drawn from all Voluntary Seniors Groups throughout the Docklands.This ensure that the voluntary ethos of the Forum continues each member should be:

  • 55 years or over in line with the World Health Organisations definition of an Older person
  • A resident of the Docklands
  • A volunteer
  • A Senior who enjoys the general supports of their immediate Community of Seniors and is in a position to report the activities of the Forum back to this group
  • Is committed to working for Seniors across the entire Docklands area, not just their own area.

Docklands Fact

The original Jeanie Johnston was built in 1847. As the famine gripped Ireland, the owners carried fleeing Irish emigrants to North America. It made 16 voyages in total, carrying 2,500 Irish emigrants. The fare to Quebec was £3.10.
