Docklands Community

The Ringsend Action Project

The mission statement of the Ringsend Action Project is to "seek to create the conditions and mechanisms whereby the people of Ringsend and Irishtown can participate in a planned and strategic way to influence the changes taking place in their community". The principles of the Ringsend Action Project ensure their activities are anti-poverty, anti-racist, non-sectarian and non-party political.

Ringsend Action Project promotes the inclusion of disadvantaged and socially excluded groups and endeavors to address gender equality in all aspects of their work. RAP facilitates greater participation in local and community development decision-making by those traditionally excluded. RAP also combats inequalities through work on issues such as: housing inequalities, Traveller exclusion, women's inequality, facilitating a community response to drug abuse, combating domestic violence, supporting the inclusion of lone parents, facilitating the development of an area-based strategic plan for the Ringsend and Irishtown district, and supporting greater collaboration and networking between local anti-poverty organisations.

Docklands Fact

300 years ago there were no houses in the Docklands with the exception of the small fishing hamlet of Ringsend. Most of the land was underwater with the occasional watchtower, customs outpost and pilgrimage hospice along the waterfront.
