Reviving a sense of community
There is no doubt that the nature of the Docklands has changed irrevocably in recent years. The area has always benefited from having a strong and supportive local community, which suffered in the 1980's from unemployment and lack of investment in economic and social infrastructure. Over recent years, however, the area has become a revitialised and dynamic urban hub with huge economic and social regeneration capacity. That development has been mirrored in the growing self confidence and involvement of the local community who have participated in the project with great enthusiasm.
From the outset, the Dockland Authority has prioritised the building up and mobilisation of both individuals and the community towards achieving their own aspirations.
