‘The World', The most luxurious cruise ship in the world, calls to Docklands.
200 metres long and 43,000 tonne ship arrived in Dublin Docklands carrying over 200 high-spend passengers for a 4 day visit to the capital.
‘The World' is known as a ‘property ship' as the 165 residential units on board the luxury cruise liner are owned by the ship's residents. The residents live on board the ship as she circumnavigates the globe. To become a resident of the ship, prices range from $600,000 for a studio apartment, to $13.5 million for a luxury suite. Some apartments and suites are available to rent, with prices for studio apartments starting at €2,000 per night.
The cruise liner can accommodate up to 300 residents and their guests as well as over 250 crew members. The vessel offers the latest in cruise luxury with an onboard pool, spa, jogging track, putting green and a full sized tennis court.
‘The World' also has some facilities that are unique due to its residential nature, such as a small grocery store and delicatessen. There are also five restaurants on board, to supplement the full kitchens in each residence. With a movie theatre, library and music venue all on board, residents have no shortage of entertainment options on the ship.
‘The World' is one of 88 cruise liners scheduled to call to Dublin this year. The arrival of these ships will generate a major boost of between €35 million and €55 million for the local economy, as the cruise ships will carry almost 80,000 high-spend passengers to the capital this year along with significant numbers of crew.
