The wine and food of ely through the seasons wins Gourmand World Cookbook Award

Today, Monday 7th December sees the announcement that the wine and food of ely through the seasons has won a Gourmand World Cookbook Award (three days before ely winebar's 10th anniversary). As the Irish winner the book will now represent Ireland in the category, ‘Best Wine Book and Best Book on Matching Food and Wine', in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards "Best in the World" Competition.

The wine and food of ely through the seasons, which is two books in one: a great cookbook and indispensable wine reference was published by the husband and wife team behind ely, Erik and Michelle Robson and printed and bound in Ireland, from sustainable, well managed forests and is fully FSC compliant.

The book, that's as stylish as the restaurants themselves is 240 pages, printed in hard back and full colour and offers over 70 delicious, all grouped according to the seasons, with each one matched with two sensational wines, carefully chosen by Erik and Michelle. The book also touches on subjects such as choosing, storing and serving wine, how to know if a wine is corked, advice on the best glassware and a comprehensive reference of grape varieties. Notes throughout the recipes give handy hints for getting the best out of each one, while illustrated step-by-steps take a closer look at some trickier techniques, such as shucking an oyster, or boning a chicken. There's also the low-down on creating a cheeseboard, serving great coffee and mixing cocktails - things that the people in ely know a thing or two about.

Glorious colour photographs by Trevor Hart and a foreword by Mary Dowey make this more than a wine reference and great cookbook. You'll be tempted to bring it out of the kitchen and browse through it, curled up with - yes, a glass of wine - on the sofa.

The wine and food of ely through the seasons will represent Ireland in the ‘Best Wine Book and Best Book on Matching Food and Wine' competing against the winners from the same category from other countries for ‘The Best in the World'. The results for The Best in the World will be announced on Thursday February 11th at the Paris Cookbook Fair.

The book, which retails at €24.95, is available in all three ely venues, online at www.elywinebar.com  and in Hughes and Hughes, Hogges Figgis and Waterstones. For anyone buying the book as a Christmas gift, or for themselves over the Christmas season, they will also receive an exclusive offer of €7.50 off a bottle of wine, from a choice of wines that are rising stars, new to the market and our wine list.
