Time:17:30 - 20:00

Description:

NCI is introducing a new public debate series in October, in partnership with the Irish Times and Newstalk. All debates will take place in the Kelly Theatre in front of a mixed audience of students, the business community and the general public, and the outcome of each debate will be decided by audience vote.

The first event will take place on October 15th from 5.45pm to 7.45pm, with the motion: This house believes that the scales of justice are tilted in favour of the criminal. Those arguing for the motion include Nora Owen, Former FG Minister for Justice and Ger Philpott from Advocates for Victims of Homicide (AdVic). Senator Ivana Bacik, Fr. Peter McVerry and Dr. Maurice Manning of Irish Human Rights Commission will argue against the motion.

The event is free of charge and open to the public. Check www.ncirl.ie  for more details.
