School Job Placement Programme
The Project
Some Docklands students opt to seek full time employment immediately after the Leaving Certificate, rather than going on to full time third level education. However, without experience this can often prove difficult. The Schools Jobs Placement Programme was designed by the Docklands Authority to help these students get their first job.
How it Works
Working with FAS, the Docklands Authority liaises with companies throughout the Docklands area to obtain entry level office positions suitable for Leaving Certificate students. It’s a fantastic headstart and a great introduction to the world of work for the young Docklanders. Once they obtain full time employment participants are offered computer training in the form of the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Certificate.
In addition, The Docklands Authority provides the new workers with the Introduction to Financial Services Certificate course which gives them a great overview of the financial industry.
The Right Result
Since the School Job Placement Programme started in 1997, over 140 students have been placed within the Docklands, many of them in the IFSC. The success of the programme is further illustrated by the fact that the majority of these students were offered full time permanent positions after the original 12 month contract. But in any event, after 12 months employment, participants have real marketable skills and experience allowing them to compete successfully for other jobs and develop their careers.
